After the
Mint Julep, the Mojito is the other very prominent mint cocktail, which has enjoyed a great deal of popularity of late.
Often when I've made mojitos, I've muddled the mint and lime wedges in the glass and left them in the bottom, but I like that this version, adapted from the one that appears in the
PDT Cocktail Book, strains them out.
Mojito
1 oz. simple syrup
8 mint leaves
2 oz. light rum
3/4 oz. lime juice
1 oz. club soda
Mint sprig (garnish)
Add simple syrup and mint to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add rum, lime juice and ice and shake until cold. Strain into a chilled collins glass filled with ice. Top with club soda and garnish with mint sprig.
Is straining easier than muddling when making a mojito? As I sit on the sofa with my feet propped up, watching you muddle our drinks, I often think, "Gosh, that looks like a lot of work!"
ReplyDeleteMuddling alone would be easier (there's always muddling with mojito), but straining isn't difficult.
